Research on Acupuncture for fertility success rates

There are many studies that show the effectiveness of acupuncture on fertility. It was found that it can help fertility in males by increasing their sperm quality and in females by increasing egg quality. What is the success rate of acupuncture for fertility?

When it comes to acupuncture for fertility, some receive it in addition to their other fertility treatment. This is because fertility treatments like Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET), Donor Egg Transfer (DET), in-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) was found to have a higher success rate with acupuncture for fertility. Because of this more obstetricians are recommending acupuncture for fertility for their patients 3 months before their fertility treatment and around the time of their treatment.

In a study [2], they had 72 infertile women going through IVF randomly separated into two groups: an acupuncture group and a control group. The acupuncture group received three acupuncture sessions. The first was a week before the fertility treatment. The second was 30 minutes before the treatment. The last session was 30 minutes after the treatment. The primary measurement was the pregnancy success rate (Beta-HCG level).

Note: Negative Beta-HCG means a woman is not pregnant and a Positive Beta HCG means a woman is pregnant

After 12 days from the IVF treatment, they looked at the Positive Beta HCG and found that the acupuncture group had 63.9 % with a Positive Beta HCG  and the control group had 33.3%. Resulting in the acupuncture group succeeding about 30% more than without acupuncture for fertility. With this, conclude that three sessions of acupuncture before and after ET significantly increased the pregnancy rates in women.
