Eczema Information

About 3.5% of the population suffers from eczema. Symptoms of eczema include red, dry, and itchy skin that is easily found near the joint creases of the body, such as the elbows and back sides of the knees (although it can appear anywhere). Rashes and blisters can also occur.

How Eczema Is Treated?

One treatment that is used is steroids, but it doesn’t heal the condition. Using steroids to treat eczema can get fast temporary pain relief, but it will come back after a couple of weeks or months and be worse than before. Thus patients need to take stronger steroids to achieve the same effect as before. This will continue happening until their medical providers say they cannot give them any more steroids because of the side effects. This leaves those sufferers not knowing what to do.

Eczema patient’s body has strong heat and dampness, heat cause red, dry and itchy skin and rashes coming out; dampness cause blisters coming out. The strong heat in the body is like the water boiling in the pot. using steroids is like using a lid to cover it, you will feel the heat diminished right away, but in fact, it is still boiling inside. When you stop using steroids, it’s like the lid is moved away, the heat will come out with heightened severity.

The right way to solve this problem is not covering with a lid but is turning down the heat. Acupuncture and herbal medicine can reduce the heat and dampness from inside of the body.

How Does Acupuncture For Eczema Work?

Acupuncture is a treatment the aims to return the body’s balance of qi. As a result of this treatment, it promotes one’s natural well-being. This is done through the process of inserting acupuncture needles on specific points in the body called acupoints and stimulating the body’s flow of qi. The stimulation of qi leads to the balance of qi and causes the body to start healing itself and return the body to its healthy state.

In the combined result of six RTCs, they found that acupuncture was better than conventional medicine at reducing the eczema area and severity index. With the combined result of seven RTCs, they found better results. They concluded in the analysis that acupuncture might be effective at reducing itch intensity and may be more effective than conventional medicine at reducing the severity and improving the global symptoms of atopic eczema. Yelp review for eczema

I was dealing with a severe chase of eczema for almost a year and all western medicine doctors offered me were steroids and ineffective medications.

I found Dr. Fu on Yelp and started treatment with him immediately. He is the only doctor who could help treat my condition with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The key is to be patient and continue the treatment. In chronic and long term diseases you may not feel the improvement after only 4 or 5 treatments, you need to believe and continue and soon after you will see amazing results.

His staff are extremely gracious, helpful and accommodating. I completely believe in his skills and ability and recommend him to anyone who is battling with health issues.

Review of acupuncture

Dr. Fu and his staff are an excellent group of people that ensure high quality care towards their patients. Dr. Fu helped me with my allergy problems and really tried to accommodate my concerns, listening to my symptoms and making sure my voice was heard.

I have had bad allergies since a child: skin irritations such as eczema and runny nose / itchy eyes. Zyrtec and Claritin were no longer helping, so I turned to an alternative, but equally effective option of acupuncture!

Each treatment session exceedingly met my expectations – Dr. Fu has a calming aura which tones down my nervousness with needles and even puts me to sleep while I wait for the needles to do its work! I have to say my allergies have now subsided and I feel much better – not just my allergy symptoms but also with my body as a whole.

Additional Info

The cause of eczema is mostly genetic where genes related to the skin affect the body’s ability to protect the body itself from environmental factors, irritants, and allergens. As a result of genetic variation, the skin reacts differently when exposed to specific irritants.

In some cases, there are small ways to help prevent symptoms of eczema. Here are some things you can try to manage your symptoms:

  • Moisturize your skin at least twice a day
  • Know and avoid triggers that worsen the condition
  • Take shorter baths or showers
  • Use only gentle soaps
  • Dry yourself carefully after taking a bath
