“I’m generally terrified of needles, but these are quite thin and feel like barely more than a tiny pin prick. Dr. Fu also takes care to use a very gentle touch and slow steady movements so at the most you feel the initial prick and some pressure, which he can alleviate by adjusting the position of the needle. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the office is extremely clean and sanitary.” – D.H. (Diamond Bar, CA)

What Is Acupuncture For Foot Pain?

Acupuncture is a Chinese practice that is gaining popularity throughout the world and it has been providing many people with relief from physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Unlike Western medicine, it is based on a traditional concept of bodily energy called qi or chi. Acupuncture can provide relief to different human conditions through the process of stimulating the body’s flow of chi by targeting acupuncture points called acupoints. By targeting the body’s acupoints with thin metallic needles, it stimulates the body’s chi and activates the body’s natural healing abilities.

Acupuncture is effective and relieves foot pain. It has been stated in the Singapore Medical Journal [1] where they tested the effectiveness of acupuncture on Plantar fasciitis, a common foot problem that is found in the bottom of the foot. By going to Dr. Fu and receiving his expert acupuncture, you’ll receive a remedy for your discomfort. It also will increase blood flow in the foot and lower leg. After a series of treatments, you’ll be relieved of foot pain and will continue to walk pain-free.

Dr. Fu greatly helped my mom’s foot and leg pain. Over the course of two weeks with 2 visits, the acupuncture made it so my mom was able to walk again with no pain! His staff was friendly and Dr. Fu was very knowledgeable and professional.

I am beyond glad that we found him as a doctor. Before, I was a skeptic about acupuncture, but it was definitely worth it! I can’t believe how quickly it worked with my mom and we will definitely go back there. 100% recommend!

foot pain review

“After receiving acupuncture treatments to my toes and neuroma site I had less pain and discomfort (especially in my toes). Oftentimes I could feel the difference in my toes from one appointment to the next.

The most benefit I received from acupuncture was in the areas of my back and neck. I used traditional methods (i.e. rest, ice, heat, rehab exercises) after the first car accident. After only a few weeks of acupuncture treatment my back pain was nearly gone and my neck pain was significantly reduced.”

What To Expect From Acupuncture For Foot Pain

Usually, acupuncture treatments are at least 50 minutes. However, it will vary depending on what type of treatment you’re receiving. Also if it is your first acupuncture session, it will take longer because you need to fill in the paper form first and then your acupuncturist will be asking you some questions about your health like how long have you been feeling foot pain. The acupuncturist will also run a medical examination like taking your pulse and checking for any sores on your foot. All of these things are for the acupuncturist to determine the best treatment for you.

One of the biggest questions that everyone wants to know is does acupuncture hurt? No, the needles don’t hurt. Because acupuncture needles are very thin like hairs and their targets are acupoints, not blood vessels, most points you don’t feel anything. Some points you only feel very mild distension. With our expert acupuncturists, you’ll be in safe hands. You may feel more depending on certain parts of your body like your hands. But, don’t be afraid to tell our acupuncturists that you’re uncomfortable. They’ll readjust the needles so you feel comfortable. There are even times where your acupuncturist doesn’t need to use acupuncture needles and you’ll receive another treatment. Our acupuncturists’ main goal is for you to feel very comfortable and after a series of treatments, relieved from your foot pain.

When you go to our clinic, you’ll meet one of our acupuncturists and you’ll answer some questions. This will determine the type of treatment you’ll be receiving. Of course, you’ll be receiving a type of acupuncture for foot pain but everyone’s different. Depending on your foot problem and medical history, your acupuncturist will change the treatment you’ll be receiving.

Generally, acupuncture for foot pain will go like this. You’ll come in and you’ll be asked some questions. Your acupuncturist will decide your treatment. If it’s acupuncture, you’ll lie down and your acupuncturist will gently place thin metallic needles in your body’s acupoints. And then stay the needles for 30 minutes. During the 30 minutes, all you need to do is relax your muscles and relax your body. After the treatment, the effect of acupuncture will begin to go increase. After a couple of hours, you will feel better than before. Afterward, your acupuncturist will remove the needles and see how you feel. You need to come back and continue for a series of treatments. After a series of treatments, you’ll feel relieved of pain.

EAT

You should eat before you go to your acupuncture treatment. You don’t need to be super full but a light meal is recommended. This will help with your treatment. Eating will prevent you from being distracted from hunger and prevent lightheadedness. It is recommended that you eat a light meal 2 hours before your appointment.

WEAR LOOSE CLOTHES

When going to your appointment, you should wear loose, comfortable clothing. This will help your acupuncturist to easily place the needles on your body’s acupuncture points. Because the process also requires you to be relaxed for a period of time, it really helps to have some comfortable clothing so you feel relaxed during the session.

NOT A TON OF CAFFEINE

Before you go to your acupuncture treatment, don’t drink an absurd amount of caffeine. If you need to drink a lot of coffee, drink it at least 2 hours before your appointment. This is because caffeine is a stimulant and it will affect your fight-or-flight response (you can think of it as being anxious). This is what your acupuncturist doesn’t want to happen. They would like you to be calm and comfortable to have the most effective treatment.

NO ALCOHOL

In addition to caffeine, don’t drink any alcohol. Although a slight amount of alcohol can help you feel relaxed, it isn’t helpful. Alcohol makes you feel too relaxed because it’s a depressant (numbs your body). By doing this, our acupuncturist can not get a correct diagnosis for your symptoms especially when you’re there for acupuncture for foot pain. You may not be able to correctly pinpoint where you are feeling pain and the intensity of the pain.

REMEMBER PAST HEALTH CONCERNS (MEDICAL HISTORY)

You might not see some things as important like how you sprain your ankle a few months ago hiking. Your ankle should have enough time to heal. But, if you have anything you think might influence your foot problem, you should tell your acupuncturist. It will be really helpful for your acupuncturist in determining the treatment for you. Also, sometimes you are taking some medications right now and it may not be the best with some of the treatments that you may be receiving.

DON’T BE NERVOUS

You might feel a little nervous especially if it is your first acupuncture or even scared of needles. But, you’re going to be okay. You’re in great hands. Don’t worry about taking your time in answering any questions your acupuncturist may have or even how scared you are about needles. Our acupuncturists are here to help you and will gladly hear you out.
