You can treat an irritated throat by gargling with salt water at the very beginning of a cold to help reduce swelling and
relive discomfort.
To make salt water, fill a half glass of water and mix in 1 teaspoon of salt.
Gargle with salt water and spit it out. Wait for 5 minutes, and then gargle with normal water and spit it out.
This is a good way to soothe an irritated throat and prevent the cold from getting worse.
