Where Did Acupuncture Originate?

Acupuncture originated in China around 100 BC and was one of the commonly used treatments. It’s popularity eventually spread throughout Asia and eventually reach the United States and other Western countries. Today, it’s a very common type of treatment for various symptoms. Unlike its western counterpart (Western medicine) that focuses on fixing things through medicine, acupuncture is part of Eastern medicine and focuses on the concept of harmony of energy. By balancing one’s body energy called qi with acupuncture, one can restore their body to its normal state, free from issues.

I had suffered from severe lower back pain for 4 years. It came from sports injury. The pain mostly was on my left lower back, sometimes it radiated down to my left thigh, left leg and left foot. When the condition got worse, I couldn’t straighten my back and needed to lie in bed all day long. The pain almost ruined my life !

Until 1 month ago, my friend referred me to see Dr. Fu. On the first visit, during the consultation, he listened my long medical history and checked my condition patiently. Before acupuncture treatment, he told me his treatment plan and explained acupuncture theory to me.

During this month, Dr. Fu used his masterly medical skill to do treatment for me. After each treatment I could feel my condition getting improving, now it is about 70% improvement. The result is amazing!

I really appreciate Dr. Fu. He changes my life. I will continue receiving treatment from him.

I am a basketball fanatic who played the game regularly with friends since my youth.  But now that I am in my 50s, my left knee meniscus finally wore out and I could no longer purse my hobby.  Having already had 1 surgery to repair the same knee a few years earlier, I decided to pursue a non-invasive treatment – acupuncture.

After some 8mos of therapy – i have recovered.  Had I gone more often in early stages, it may have been much faster to complete this regimen.  By the way, I couldn’t go as often as i wanted to due to my business schedule but more so because I live in San Diego – yes, myself and my family would rather travel this distance to seek Dr Fu simply because of his effectiveness and skills as a herbalist and acupuncturist, that, and on top of his professionalism and kind support/care offered by his staff.  We would drive that far thru crazy I-5 traffic for all of the above!

I am grateful to Dr. Fu’s successful work on my injured knee!

Additional Info

The cause of sports injuries can be broken into two groups: acute or chronic. These injuries can be the result of direct impact, overuse, or overdoing.

ACUTE INJURY

Acute injuries are caused by a sudden injury from an accident or incident. The symptoms can be noticeable right away. Some examples that can cause acute injuries are slips, falls, tackles, or collisions.

CHRONIC INJURY

Chronic injuries are long-term injuries. They are caused by an acute injury that hasn’t completely healed or overuse of a body part or improper form. In some cases, athletes play through injuries and result in chronic pain.

Various factors can cause a sports injury. It can range from an accident to simply not warming up properly. These are the most common sports injuries for each body part:

HEAD

When it comes to head injuries, concussions are the most common, especially with high contact sports. Concussions are caused by a blow to the head or violently shaking of the head. This injury can cause temporary headaches and issues with things like concentration, memory, balance, and coordination. Frequent concussions can cause long-term damage to brain functions. If you have experienced a concussion, consult your doctor.

SHOULDER

For most shoulder pains, they are caused by either inflammation or tearing of the rotor cuff from things like excessive use of the shoulder. In some cases, other conditions have similar symptoms like frozen shoulder and labral tear.

ELBOW

Sports injuries that pertain to the elbow is usually a tendon problem around the elbow. The most common elbow injuries are lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) and medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow).

WRIST

With the wrist, the most common sports injury for it is a fracture. Wrist fractures could be the result of overuse or landing incorrectly and using your hand to catch yourself. In these cases, wrist fractures need to be treated right away to prevent more issues.

FINGER

When most people think of sports-related finger injuries, they probably know it as a jammed finger. Other injuries include dislocations of the finger joint and swelling around the finger. These are most common in soccer and basketball.

Spin injuries are probably due to low-back muscle strains that can affect you, whether you’re an athlete or non-athlete. The most common of spine injuries is lumbar strains. In cases with spinal injuries, low-back muscle strains can cause structural damage.

The most common groin injury is groin strains, and the most hip problems are caused by muscle strains like Femoroacetabular Impingement and Early Hip Arthritis (FAI), and labral tears. Usually, groin injuries are more common compared to hip injuries.

THIGH

In the thigh, the most common injuries pertain to the hamstring, quadriceps, and adductor muscles. These are usually caused by a muscle strain, pull, or tear around those areas. Sports with high-speed activities have a high risk of experiencing a thigh injury.

KNEE

One of the most common knee injuries is called anterior knee pain, also known as patellofemoral pain syndrome. Anterior knee pain is caused by irritation under the kneecap and can cause pain and grinding around the knee.

ANKLE

Common ankle injuries one may experience is an ankle sprain. Experiencing an ankle sprain increases the chances of experiencing it again. Proper treatment of ankle sprains can help prevent more ankle sprain from occurring.

FOOT

Foot pain mostly involves something called plantar fasciitis. This is caused by irritation of the thick, tough tissue that creates the arch of the foot. If this occurs, it can lead to other foot problems in the foot like the heel.

In some cases, sports injuries are preventable with proper precautions. Here are some things you can do to avoid sports injuries:
