Health Tip of The Week: Acupuncture and Herbs for Eczema

Eczema is one of the most common skin issues. About 3.5% of the population suffer from eczema. Symptoms of eczema are red, dry and itchy skin that is easily found near the joint creases of the body, such as the elbows and back sides of the knees (although it can appear anywhere). Rashes and blisters can also occur. Using steroid to treat eczema can get fast temporary pain relief, but it will come back after a couple weeks or months and be worse than before. Thus patients need to take stronger steroids to achieve the same effect as before. This will continue happen until their medical providers says they cannot give them anymore steroids because of the side effects. This leaves those sufferers not knowing what to do. Eczema patient’s body has strong heat and dampness, heat cause red, dry and itchy skin and rashes coming out; dampness cause blisters coming out. The strong heat in the body is like the water boiling in the pot. using steroids is like using a lid to cover it, you will feel the heat diminished right away, but in fact it is still boiling inside. When you stop using steroids, it’s like the lid is moved away, the heat will come out with heightened severity. The right way to solve this problem is not covering with lid, but is turning down the heat of the oven so to speak. Like acupuncture and herbal medicine reduce the heat and dampness from inside of body

Health Tip of The Week: Acupuncture for Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder patients suffer the severe shoulder pain  and limited R.O.M. (range of motion). Most of patients get injured, and then do not receive proper treatment right away. This causes the condition to get worse: more painful and more limited. For a hypothetical example, consider PatientA. At the beginning, pain scale for PatientA is 2/10, after 2 years, it increases to 7/10. At the beginning, R.O.M. abduction for PatientA was 160 degrees, after 2 years, it becomes reduced to only 30 degrees. Western medicine doctor like to use cortisone injection, but cortisone injections just temporarily relieves the pain, after couple weeks it comes back with even more severity. Get acupuncture as early as possible to prevent this problem from getting worse. The earlier you get treatments, the less treatments you’ll need. -Dr. Chun-Ming Fu

Health Tip of the Week: Different Responses to Each Acupuncture Treatment

Q: Why is my feeling after treatment different from appointment to appointment? A: Our body is not like a computer where you can get the same output from the same input.  The response of each human body is different and varies from time to time. You cannot predict how your body responds to the treatment.  Sometimes we can not even describe clearly on our own feeling toward our body .  Thus it is quite normal that you will have different feelings after every treatment. Health Tip of The Week: The Difference Between Western and Chinese Medicine (1)

The important difference between Western and Chinese medicine is that the Chinese medicine uses different approach to treat the source of medical problem(s) by understand human body’s constitution and activates body’s self healing process whereas Western medicine only diagnose and treat the symptoms regardless the body constitution.  With conventional Western medicine, it focuses on removing the symptoms and patient may show or experience “instant” improvement after taking the medication in the beginning of treatment.  But the patient usually requires medication for certain period of time.   If the symptom(s) persist or longer treatment requires, more medications may be taken.   If the medication stops during the treatment, the symptom(s) may persist or worsen and some patient may develop side-effect or become addiction or dependence on medication. ……to be continued Dr. Chun-Ming Fu If you find this useful don’t forget to SHARE IT with your friends! :D And make sure to Follow Us on Twitter and Like Us on Facebook to receive important news, discounts, and health tips like this

Health Tip of The Week: Protect the Lower Back When Lifting

irvine acupuncture for back pain treatment Using appropriate lifting techniques will help prevent a lower back injury. Lift heavy items slowly, breaking the motion into smaller parts, whenever possible. For example, if you must lift a heavy box from the floor to a high shelf, find a support midway. Then rest the box there for a moment before hoisting it onto the shelf. When lifting, bend at the knees, not at the lower back. If you must turn while lifting, pivot with the feet, instead of twisting the lower back. Health Tip of The Week: Explanations of Acupuncture Treatment Process

Acupuncture treatments can be differentiated on the basis of two conditions:
  1. Acute conditions:The earlier the treatments are received after injury, the better the results will be. Three to five treatments may be sufficient.
  2. Chronic conditions (illness postponed for a long time without treatments): Under such condition, treatment is divided into four stages as illustrated below:
Stage 1: Intensive Tx Period: 3 Txs/week, until about 60% recovered. Stage 2: Continued Tx Period: 2 Tx/week, until about 90% recovered. Stage 3: Recovery Period: 1 Tx/week, until the condition does not      recur again during this period of time. Stage 4: Observation and Maintenance Period: After you have recovered from the condition, you must take good care of your body, especially the weak point that needs special care.   Just as you need to perform annual car maintenance and undergo a dental check-up, you also need to schedule appointment for your check-up after the treatment. If a patient’s (including weight-loss patients) condition recur, he or she would need to come back to receive treatment as soon as possible Dr. Chun-Ming Fu If you find this useful don’t forget to SHARE IT with your friends! :D And make sure to Follow Us on Twitter and Like Us on Facebook to receive important news, discounts, and health tips like this

Health Tip of The Week: What You Need To Do Prior To Your Acupuncture Appointment?

The main difference between acupuncture treatment and western medicine is that acupuncture treatment uses a natural approach to treat the source of medical problem(s) or pain. It does so by understanding each person’s body constitution and treating each person by stimulating the acupoints of the body to activate the body’s self-healing process and increase Qi and blood circulation.  Please keep in mind that everyone’s body condition is different and only you know how your body feels, the location of your pain, and medical condition(s).  Thus, it is recommended that you make note of any pain or information related to your medical condition(s) prior to your appointment. Help yourself by helping your doctor know you better.

For patients with pain:  Make note of the location of your pain prior to each appointment and inform doctor during your appointment, use one finger to locate your pain point as precise as possible to help you get better sooner. For patients with chronic condition: the cause or the source of medical problem(s) can be traced.  Please provide any related information to your symptoms in as much detail as possible so that doctor can better understand and evaluate your lifestyle or any of your habits that may be related to your medical problem(s). Doctor will then provide you with suggestions and recommendations for changes to any habit that may be contributing to your medical problems(s) based on the information you provided to help you live healthier and with a better quality of life for the future. For other medical problem(s):  Do your best to prepare a detailed summary of your health condition from the time of your last treatment to your current appointment.  This will help doctor understand you better and provide an appropriate treatment or medication. -Dr. Chun-Ming Fu If you find this useful don’t forget to SHARE IT with your friends! :D And make sure to Follow Us on Twitter and Like Us on Facebook to receive important news, discounts, and health tips like this

Health Tip of the Week: Acupuncture and Herbs for Insomnia

Insomnia ranks high, right behind the common cold, stomach disorders and headaches as a reason why people seek a doctor’s help.  There are about one-third of adults complained that they woke up in the midnight and couldn’t continue their sleep. No matter if you can not continue the sleep in the midnight or can not fall asleep at the beginning, acupuncture and herbs are all very helpful to relieve the condition. There is the theory of Yin-Yang in Chinese medicine. Yang is like the day time, sun, hot, fire, dry… Yin is like the night time, moon, cold, water, wet… If Yin and Yang are balance in your body, you will feel comfortable, peaceful and healthy. If Yin is too low (Yin deficiency), you will feel too much Yang (Heat) in your body, the heat will disrupt your sleep. Having a good night sleep will increase the Yin. On the contrary, insomnia will cause your Yin deficiency, so your condition will be getting worse, this is a vicious circle. If you are suffered from insomnia , you need to get help as soon as possible to change your sleep disorder. Acupuncture and herbs work by increasing Yin and reducing heat in the body to treat this condition. They are the natural ways to release your insomnia with no side effect at all.   -Dr. Chun-Ming Fu If you find this useful don’t forget to SHARE IT with your friends! :D And make sure to Follow Us on Twitter and Like Us on Facebook to receive important news, discounts, and health tips like this
